An Intergenerational Project (Digital Learning)
to empower seniors and newcomer youth with Cantonese and Mandarin backgrounds through a mutual digital learning experience.
OneHub Growth is honoured to receive funding from the Government of Ontario regarding the 2023-24 Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support this intergenerational project for the racialized community. This year-long project will address the needs of racialized seniors and empower youth to use their digital skills to build community connections.

Realities for Racialized Seniors
Our intergenerational project meets the needs of racialized seniors and youth who speak Cantonese and Mandarin, the most common non-official languages spoken at home by York Region seniors 65+, with 26,800 seniors speaking Cantonese and 10,110 Mandarin-speaking seniors in the 2021 census. Since COVID, seniors have noticed their changing need to learn computer skills to access community resources, attend virtual meetings, and connect with family members and friends.
Realities for Racialized Youth
Racialized high school or university youth face barriers to integrating into communities and can empower themselves and racialized seniors by teaching them digital skills. This project allows racialized youth to use technology skills to strengthen their identities, establish relationships with seniors, and promote self-esteem.
